OAS is thrilled to bring life drawing (with live models) to Studio Two on Friday afternoons this spring. This eight week life drawing class will begin with fundamental drawing techniques applied to the human figure. Techniques taught will include: basic human anatomy, contour drawing, gesture drawing and chiaroscuro. The concluding drawings in the class will involve long poses where all techniques covered are cohesively combined. In this 6-weekcrash course, you’ll learn all you need to know to get started on your digital painting journey. Applicable to most drawing/painting programs, this workshop will introduce concepts like elements of art and design, blending modes, facial proportions (portrait painting), painting from reference, and rendering. We will learn how to create interesting pieces of digital art with texture and atmosphere utilizing many different digital specific techniques. By the end of the workshop, participants will have completed digital sketches, mini portraits, and rough landscapes while familiarizing themselves with digital drawing programs. Instructor will be using Procreate for iPad.

This 8-week intermediate painting course invites artists to loosen up, paint boldly, and explore expressive brushwork inspired by the energetic brushwork of Vincent van Gogh. Working in acrylics or oils, students will paint a different subject each week—ranging from dynamic landscapes to vibrant florals—using colour, rhythm, and intentional mark-making to bring their paintings to life. Each class will include instructor demonstrations focused on expressive techniques, colour mixing, and building movement through brushstrokes. Students will have ample studio time to paint, experiment, and develop their own voice, with ongoing individual feedback and guidance throughout each session. Learn how to capture the colourful worlds of birds and blooms! You will explore acrylic painting techniques used to capture different textures -- from feathers to foliage. Learn to mix colours to create vibrant nature-inspired artworks. We'll complete a new piece every two weeks (i.e. two classes will be dedicated to each painting). You will gain skill and confidence as you work from sketch and composition, to painting in the shapes and adding final details.
