The beauty of nature comes in many forms. This course is an opportunity to create artwork inspired by an element of the natural world. First is a landscape, where you will learn to depict depth, play with light and colour, and create a space to get lost in. Next is an animal; learn to tackle an animal painting using colour, brushstrokes and shadow to infuse life into a furry creature. Lastly, learn how to use shape and composition to paint a botanical that jumps from the canvas. Each painting will include step-by-step instructor demos, as well as plenty of one-on-one assistance. This course focuses on drawing and sketching real-life subjects in the form of everyday objects as well as specialized cast statues. The cast statues include depictions of statues and wall decals from the renaissance, casted using white plaster cast. These objects and casts will inspire students to create vividly authentic sketches, allowing them to enrich their artistic talents. With attention to value, form, perspective and proportion, you’ll be sure to learn skills that will further your artistic journey and develop works fueled by technical skill.

An eight week, intensive course that covers the fundamentals of drawing. While primarily aimed at beginners, the course will also help firm up the skills of students with some drawing experience. Along with covering the fundamentals of drawing, students will develop a basic understanding of values (light and shadow) and perspective drawing (object drawing and architectural drawing). Each session will consist of an intensive step by step delivery, with students working closely with the instructor. Following completion of the program, students will have the comprehensive skill set necessary to accurately render observable objects. While not mandatory, some drawing during the week between sessions will enhance the learning experience.

This 4-week, just for fun course invites artists to loosen up, paint boldly, and explore expressive brushwork inspired by the energetic brushwork of Vincent van Gogh. Working in acrylics or oils, students will paint a different subject each week—ranging from dynamic landscapes to vibrant florals—using colour, rhythm, and intentional mark-making to bring their paintings to life. Each class will include instructor demonstrations focused on expressive techniques, colour mixing, and building movement through brushstrokes. Students will have ample studio time to paint, experiment, and develop their own voice, with ongoing individual feedback and guidance throughout each session. This course is ideal for painters who are comfortable with basic materials and techniques and are ready to push beyond realism, embrace texture, and explore colour and emotion. Out of stockThe light and atmosphere are incredible. We will paint in water soluble oil and acrylics. We will explore the greens and blues, low light and sunshine of this beautiful Island. We will paint the rolling hills, stone walls, the old buildings and ruins dotted around the countryside, and some of the many sheep and one shepherd I have encountered. We will paint a number of paintings in this class, sometimes spending two classes on a painting. I will supply the reference images for each class and you will have the opportunity to add your own touch to the final painting. There will be a few architectural elements explored as well. London is filled with wonderful subjects for painters — from iconic buildings and familiar streets to quiet corners, villages and landscapes beyond the city. In this class, we will explore a selection of London scenes, surrounding towns and villages, landscapes and a seascape. You will learn how to simplify what may initially appear to be complicated subjects into a series of simple shapes and values. We will pay particular attention to light, shadow and colour, discovering how these elements can transform a painting and give buildings and landscapes a sense of atmosphere and place. Rather than trying to paint every detail, we will concentrate on identifying the important shapes and relationships that make a scene work. A new painting will be started in each class, with some additional work to be completed at home. This will give you the opportunity to build a small collection of paintings while developing your understanding of composition, colour and light. In this fun, energetic course, you will learn a different strategy each class, adding 2 paintings to the series per week. Abstract painting is fun for new and seasoned artists, as well as for either representational or non- representational artists. In this course you will paint ‘in the moment’ - no plans or expectations - enjoying the dance of shape, texture and colour, relying on your ‘gut’ for inspiration. It’s spontaneous, intuitive and fun, and requires a spirit of risk. Abstraction is an open and playful approach to art making that can evolve into a discreet pursuit or aid in fostering creativity generally.
