This beginner-friendly workshop is designed as a calming, creative escape from the busyness of daily life. Together, we’ll explore watercolor through gentle, pattern-based exercises that encourage slowing down and connecting with the flow of paint and water. We’ll focus on intuitive brushwork, soft color layering, and mindful, meditative mark-making techniques. There’s no pressure to be “perfect” — the focus is on enjoying the process, experimenting with colors, and letting go of expectations. By the end, everyone will leave with 5–6 beautiful, abstract 5x7 pieces on professional grade, 100% cotton watercolour paper (provided). Please see the link directly below for the list of materials that you need to bring with you / are not provided (practice paper, paint etc.) You will go away with a newfound confidence in watercolors, and a sense of creative calm! Pooja_WatercolorWorkshop_Relax & Flow_SupplyListWatercolor paper: Pooja will provide 6 sheets of professional quality 100% cotton watercolor paper to each student. Each sheet will be sized to 5x7 inches which will be the size of final pattern pieces that we will be creating in the class together. However, students must bring their own watercolor paper or watercolor sketchbooks for warm-up and practice exercises before we jump into painting patterns.

In this course, interpretation of the landscape painting takes precedence over accurate depiction. This means colors, shapes, and forms may be altered or exaggerated to convey a specific feeling or idea. For example, a sunset might be painted with vibrant, unnatural colors to evoke a sense of drama or emotion. Or A stormy sky might be used to symbolize turmoil or intensity. This may also include abstract or semi-abstract elements, such as simplified shapes, bold brushstrokes, or non-representational forms; trees might be reduced to geometric shapes, or the horizon line might be distorted to create a sense of movement. Out of stockSo we can paint – now what? This is a question I ask myself more and more each day – why am I doing this, and what is it for? I do like to capture a great landscape, still life or peoplescape, but I want to add something more to my work. Something of meaning to me, something that may evoke an emotion, or provoke the viewer to look at the work and be pulled into the painting. This type of work is challenging and will add a whole new meaning to the work you will create. We paint in this class and complete a number of works that will surely add to your creative journey. A notebook or sketchbook (plus pen or pencil) is essential. We will use this to capture your thoughts and intentions for your work. We are very excited to welcome Stephanie's Creative Courage class to OAS! This is a facilitated studio series that focuses on artistic exploration, finding inspiration, and nurturing your creative consciousness. Supported by a collaborative environment, students will be introduced to techniques in composition, colour, and expression. Bring your favorite supplies -- from drawing to painting to mixed media, from landscape to still life to figurative -- and more. Chose your own adventure – whether it’s a brand new project, or one already in progress that you would like support working on. One of the sessions during the series will introduce an unconventional approach or technique that students might wish to add to their pieces. We will also discuss the techniques of a few chosen artists. This mentorship series is perfect for people who have taken a few beginners' drawing or painting classes.
