This course focuses on drawing and sketching real-life subjects in the form of everyday objects as well as specialized cast statues. The cast statues include depictions of statues and wall decals from the renaissance, casted using white plaster cast. These objects and casts will inspire students to create vividly authentic sketches, allowing them to enrich their artistic talents. With attention to value, form, perspective and proportion, you’ll be sure to learn skills that will further your artistic journey and develop works fueled by technical skill.

Out of stockJoin Barbara for a four week mentoring class as she guides you through the topics of composition, shape, value and colour, light and shadow as well as painting techniques. Expect Barbara to discuss various art related topics as she moves about the class and circulates through the studio for individual attention. Students should bring their chosen subject matter in either oil or acrylic. Participants can choose to work one one piece throughout the 4 weeks or bring a new piece each week. The choice is yours and Barbara is there to help you on your path towards finding your voice. Bring your normal working supplies and chosen painting surface plus any images that you would like to paint as well as a cover for the OAS table.

Back by popular demand! Dedicated time to just paint with others in the spring light of Studio One. Get out of the house, and take eight Monday evenings to create anything you wish in this completely informal setting for optimal comfort and focus. This studio time, open to members and non-members, is the perfect opportunity to work on pieces from classes you're taking, or whatever you like. These precious hours involve no formal instruction whatsoever, but feel free to offer / receive feedback and encouragement from others, (as you wish).

Students are encouraged to experiment with the option of personal reference material of choice and / or subject matter, such as landscape, abstract, figurative, portrait, and mixed media and to employ recycled materials for inspiration. Your instructor will encourage you to explore and guide you through the various stages of development of your artwork. Experiment with mixing traditional mediums such as painting, drawing and non-traditional materials – found objects, textiles, collage elements and more will be celebrated. The emphasis is on creative exploration, allowing students to break with tradition and discover inspiration through new exciting ways of creating visual art. Join Barbara as you explore a looser, more impressionistic approach to oil painting for beginners. Barbara will guide you as you learn how to start your paintings, how to use your paint and brushes, and recognize shape and value in a composition. She will also touch on colour relationships and composition which play an important role in conveying a strong visual statement. Expect to play with a variety of colours and colour relationships in the palettes of the great impressionists. Instructor: Bonnie Steinberg Focus on the dramatic presence of light and colour and gain a better understanding of composition. France is a glorious place for expressing colour and light. An incorporation of these will be explored in both street scenes and landscapes in France, which will be our inspiration. The Southwest of France and its infinite possibilities will prove to be most exciting. Colour mixing, and Bonnie’s exciting use of colour will be demonstrated for students. If colour excites you, then this class is for you! Atmospheric and linear perspective will be emphasized and taught. Bonnie’s hands-on approach and exciting demos will inspire passion and luminous paintings.
