In this afternoon workshop, learn the fundamentals of drawing in an anime style. From basic elements like hair, eyes, hands, heads, and poses, to personalized style, facial expressions and more, learn the skills you need to help get started on your journey of drawing the characters you love and making your own! Multiple different anime styles and genres such as Shōnen (eg. Naruto), Fantasy (eg. Jujutsu Kaisen), Chibi (eg. Pokémon) and stylized realism (eg. Studio Ghibli) will be covered. Participants will need to bring plain paper, an eraser, sharpener, and coloured pens or pencils and / or a digital drawing device. No prior drawing experience required! Over the eight weeks, you’ll learn all you need to know to embark on your digital painting journey . Procreate (for iPad or android) is an app that requires a one time purchase ($12.99 USD). You'll also need a stylus, and an iPad or tablet device to run the Procreate software. This course will introduce key concepts such as elements of art and design, blending modes, facial proportions (portrait painting), painting from reference, and rendering. You will learn how to create compelling pieces of digital art with texture and atmosphere utilizing various digital-specific techniques. By the end of the series, participants will have completed digital sketches, mini portraits, and rough landscapes, while familiarizing themselves with digital drawing programs.
