“I love how Laurel takes everything step by step but doesn’t discourage some individuality in the process. I like guidelines but also like to add more detail if I feel like it or maybe slightly different hues to make the painting my own and not trying to make a carbon copy of hers. She shows us the photograph that inspires the drawing, that inspires the painting. I am learning to look at a picture and be able to zero in on the focal point and add finishing touches later. I never thought I’d be able to paint a hummingbird! It looked difficult and a bit intimidating for me however, step by step, the hummingbird came to life.”
