Whether you have a favourite medium yet… or not. Do you wish you’d taken art in school? This is the course to start you on your art journey! The elements and principles of design are fundamental concepts used in visual arts and design to create effective and aesthetically pleasing compositions. The elements are the basic building blocks, while the principles guide how those elements are used.  You will explore the elements of design – line, shape, form, colour, value, space and texture – and create works around them. The principles of design – from balance and proportion to repetition, and white space (and everything in between) – will apply to every aspect of your practice going forward.

Description

Wednesday mornings: 9:30am-12:30pm
This class is 8 weeks and runs Sept. 3 – Oct. 22

OAS is thrilled to welcome Greg back to OAS and celebrate his recent retirement from his “day” job.  Hopefully, we will see a lot more of Greg from now on!

His work is exquisite. His manner is calm and gentle. You can read a bit about him and his work in this piece from The Spectator.

Here is what some of his OAS students have said:

“I feel Greg Douglas is an excellent teacher and his pastels are certainly worth the time.  He showed us quite a few ways in which to use them and mix them with other medias as well.”

“Greg did an excellent job, I thoroughly enjoyed the course. I can only be amazed at his skills.”

“This was an amazing introduction to pastel course! I have learnt a lot in a short time and was really happy about my results. We covered a lot of techniques and learned many tips. I liked that we were able to choose our own subjects. It was great to have a demo part at the beginning of each class before working independently, and still be guided and encouraged throughout each class. Greg is a great educator and artist! I hope there will be a continuation of this class.”
