I would not change a thing about Heather de Haan’s acrylic painting class, very enjoyable! 

Since this was my introduction to acrylic painting I appreciated Heather’s feedback, and her confidence in us to express our own style. I learned about blocking shapes, whether it was landscape or still life florals, colour mixing and brush stroke techniques. Each lesson she had us focus on a different subject matter, followed by a demonstration which was quite helpful. Heather offered us just the right amount of time to paint on our own, circulating and giving us painting tips, helpful feedback and lots of encouragement! 

I enjoyed my second class with Heather so much, that I signed up for a third!!! Looking forward to learning and growing my skills – she is very inspiring and supportive!! 

This was the first time I’ve attended an OAS class. Heather is very friendly and helpful and skilled. I have re-liked still life; am leaning in to that now. 

I have taken several of Heather’s classes.  I love her teaching style, she demonstrates how to work through a painting from start to finish and encourages students to make the tutorial their own in their work.  As well, Heather allows students to take her class but also explore their own work.  I have learned a lot from Heather even when I am not working on the painting of the week.  She is always excited to see the students and provides helpful feedback on our work. I will continue to take Heather’s classes!!!

I really enjoyed the acrylic painting classes with Heather on Tuesday afternoons. She is very encouraging and provided good advice and demonstrations. I will sign up for one of her sessions again.

I really loved and enjoyed this class! Heather really cares about each student and strives to understand our needs as adult learners. I think what impressed me most is her courage in painting while we watched and that she also welcomed and validated all of my many feelings and vulnerabilities.

I am planning to take the same course again with Heather in September. I learned a lot and was very satisfied with the course. Heather focused on the basics that beginning acrylic painters need, especially how to “loosen up” and paint more freely. I have taught skills courses to adults for over 40 years, and I found it very enjoyable to be the student for a change. Heather made the experience fun and rewarding. 

I loved Heather’s classes! Simple, straightforward lessons outlining basic techniques in a comfortable and relaxed environment. Heather’s demonstrations were so enlightening and enjoyable, watching her go from simple blocks of colour to a work of art. The opportunity to learn the basic tricks of the trade, and explore painting shadows on snow,  feathers on birds, and reflections on water made me (a novice painter) feel like I could actually produce something not half bad. And I did! Great class! Thanks Heather!

I have always enjoyed Heather’s classes.  She provides her students with the basics to get started, but also teaches new skills throughout the class.  She does a great job catering to various levels of student ability in her classes and is very encouraging to all. I always learn something new in her class, even when I choose to work on a completely different project than she has assigned.  I appreciate the freedom that she gives her students!
