In the first weeks of this course, Sue will teach you how to easily break down and simplify a painting from the Group of Seven. She will show you how to mix and apply the colours, and how to add details to finish the painting. The next weeks are your choice. Bring in a photograph or a painting you’ve always admired and use the techniques you learned in the first few weeks, and apply them to your personal project. There will be lots of one-on-one instruction.

Susan DelBianco
Susan attended Fanshawe College for Advertising art and Fine art. She’s exhibited her work at different area venues and worked at Disney Canada. Inspiration comes through her photography and enjoys re-imagining some of her work into more abstract pieces.

I know that many people will be very excited to welcome Sue back to OAS. She’s been away from us for a year. Here is what some of her students had to say:

“Susan is very gifted and the environment of the class was pleasant. I learned a lot.”

————————-

“This was my first class with Susan and it was awesome. Susan is such a naturally talented individual with such a warm and inviting personality. Every class was fun and filled with laughter and she gave me so many good tips and tricks that I am using every time I paint! I’m just so happy I finally got to take a class with her because she really is such a great teacher, working with everyone one on one.”

————————–

“I love my classes with Susan! She is a fun, warm-hearted, and laid back teacher who makes everyone feel comfortable, and each student can learn at their own pace. After the initial painting, which is always based on a Group of Seven work chosen by Sue, students get to decide what to paint next. Sue pays special attention to every student’s interests and offers them more themes to explore by referring them to the works of certain established artists she thinks they would like, or by showing them specific reproductions from one of her art books or the ones in class. I think this is why her students get so engaged and motivated to do great work in those few weeks which seem to fly by so fast.”

————————-

“I enjoyed Susan’s class more than once, firstly because of the opportunity to reimagine works by classics (the group of 7) during the first part of the course, and secondly because I then get the opportunity to complete one or more paintings of subjects of my own choosing with Susan providing guidance and additional teaching as needed and as requested, in a relaxing and fun manner. Susan is an enthusiastic teacher who is happy to instruct whoever wants to learn, no matter their proficiency level, which is why I keep coming back to this course again and again.”

—————————

“Sue provided a safe atmosphere to experiment with painting, and gave a lot of individual feedback.  I enjoyed her demo each week.  All in all, the class atmosphere was relaxed and supportive.”

—————————–

“Sue is very supportive and is always able to advise, suggest and demonstrate when asked. She is very easy going and pleasant to work with. I have enjoyed her courses.”
