In this 3-hour, beginner-friendly workshop, we’ll begin with an easy introduction to dessert structure and shading basics, understanding simple forms, light direction, and proportion to help you sketch confidently or work from a provided outline template if you prefer to jump straight into painting. You may draw your own outline or paint along using a provided sketch template. This session is all about learning with fun and building confidence — no pressure, no perfection, just progress! By the end, you’ll have one finished dessert artwork, essential techniques you can reuse, and the skills to continue painting your favorite treats in watercolor at any scale. Create your completely original 9"×12" batik art on wild silk. Paint your own design and learn the wax process to create the exquisite batik texture. You will work on the highest grade silk, specifically suited for batik. Your outcome will be a piece suitable to mount on the canvas of your choice (9"×12" gallery deep or 11" ×14" regular) after the workshop (and therefore not included in the workshop fee.) Alternatively, you may later opt to stretch it under glass with paspartu/paper frame. All that will be left for you to complete at home is to iron off the wax before stretching it to suit your preferred presentation mode; you will leave with exact instructions for the specific technique you select, and everything you need to know regarding the aftercare of your treasured piece.

Join artist Dominique Prevost for a lively, colour-filled morning of suminagashi on washi, creative exploration, and fun! Suminagashi is the ancient Japanese technique of decorating paper with inks. It is believed to be the oldest form of marbling, originating in China over 2000 years ago and practiced in Japan by Shinto priests as early as the 12th century. Originally used as a subtle background for calligraphy, the new colour intense inks bring it to the forefront! Experience this highly meditative technique and create your own masterpieces. You will create various suminagashi pattern-making techniques on a choice selection of Japanese paper (washi). Dominique will also present a short talk and demo on how to use your completed Suminagashi pieces.

In this introductory workshop, students will learn the foundations of oil painting using the alla prima (wet-on-wet) technique. Through the step-by-step creation of a cupcake with a candle, participants will practice color mixing, shape blocking, blending, light and shadow, and basic composition. This class is designed for those with little or no experience and aims to build confidence while completing a full painting in one session. Discover the art of painting birds in watercolor! In this 3-hour, beginner-friendly workshop, we’ll start with an inspiring introduction to bird anatomy, understanding proportions, posture, wings, beaks, and feather flow to help you observe subjects with more confidence. You may choose to draw your own bird sketch, or work from a provided outline template if you prefer to focus fully on painting. From there, you’ll learn to build soft watercolor layers for shape and volume, blend vibrant colors with ease, and finish your illustration with gentle coloured pencil accents to add definition, feather texture, and final details. OAS is very excited to welcome Tatjana to OAS! In this two-day workshop, participants will explore the playful world of papier mâché using familiar, household materials such as tinfoil, masking tape, and cardboard. Taking inspiration from Mexican Alebrijes and other mythological chimeras, participants will design and sculpt their own whimsical creatures that blend the real and the fantastical. Day One focuses on building armatures and learning how to make and apply homemade paper clay and pulp. Day Two will be devoted to painting and finishing, bringing each unique creature to life through colour, texture, and pattern. This workshop encourages creativity, experimentation, and storytelling through sculpture—no prior experience required! All materials are included, and artists of all ages are welcome! Participants are encouraged to wear clothing suitable for messy work or bring an apron.
