The first part of the eight week program will be an intensive and systematic, step by step course that covers the fundamentals of drawing. While primarily aimed at beginners, the course will also help firm up the skills of students with some drawing experience. The second half will instill an understanding of values (light and shadow) which are key to the successful creation of representational art. Overall, the program will move from the fundamentals, to the understanding and application of the principles of light and shadow, or ‘chiaroscuro’, in order to achieve a sense of volume and realism in depicting three-dimensional objects. Each session will consist of an intensive step by step delivery, with students working closely with the instructor towards the goal of achieving impressive results. This will be demonstrated with a final realistic charcoal life rendering. Following completion of the program, students will have the comprehensive skill set necessary to accurately render any observable object. While not mandatory, some drawing during the week between sessions will enhance the learning experience.

After living in Sweden with the Brucebo Fine Art Residency Scholarship he returned to Canada to work as a digital matte painter and compositor in film and other media while continuing to paint traditionally.
