Create your completely original 9″×12″ batik art on wild silk. Paint your own design and learn the wax process to create the exquisite batik texture. You will work on the highest grade silk, specifically suited for batik. Your outcome will be a piece suitable to mount  on the canvas of your choice (9″×12″ gallery deep or 11″ ×14″ regular) after the workshop (and therefore not included in the workshop fee.) Alternatively, you may later opt to stretch it under glass with paspartu/paper frame. All that will be left for you to complete at home is to iron off the wax before stretching it to suit your preferred presentation mode; you will leave with exact instructions for the specific technique you select, and everything you need to know regarding the aftercare of your treasured piece.

Description

Here is what some of Ani’s students said recently following her two day silk scarf workshop at OAS:

“I really enjoyed the silk painting workshop and can’t wait for more of them. Ani was wonderful and well prepared. She provided great information before, during and after class. She was very attentive and guided each one of us throughout the process, while giving personalized suggestions. Her expertise was very valuable and she could pinpoint any potential problems before they happened. I liked that all the supplies were included. It makes things a lot easier. I also liked that we had the option to choose our own subject.Thank you for offering this workshop!”

“I took the two day workshop to learn painting on a silk scarf with Ani….I loved learning this technique!  I had not taken any classes through OAS before, but I would certainly like to take more classes after this experience. Ani is an excellent instructor…taking us through the techniques and steps very clearly and made it all seem possible.  She was always very encouraging.  She supplied everything we needed, and assisted with our designs, mixing colours, and application of the paints when needed. My scarf turned out beautifully, and I will be wearing it with pride. I learned a lot and would certainly work on another scarf on my own.  I would certainly recommend taking this workshop, and I would sign up for another class. Thanks!”

About the Artist

Ani Harutyunyan is an enthusiastic artist who currently lives and creates in Oakville. She was still in art school when she discovered her passion – painting on silk, which has become an inseparable part of her life since. Ani graduated from State Academy of Fine Arts of Armenia in 2006. While holing bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design and Style, Ani has explored painting as a self-expression via many different mediums, watercolors, oil paints, and acrylics.

Ani lived in many countries on different continents, where she conducted art classes and workshops for children, adults, and retirees. She showcased her work with small galleries and community centers in Vancouver, Windhoek, Tbilisi, Budapest, Copenhagen and in her hometown Yerevan.

Simplicity of lines and complexity of colors are the main ingredients of Ani’s inspiration for her   artwork. Since childhood she has been much fascinated by nature and has spent significant time exploring it. Ani tries to translate nature to art through her own lines and colors on the most delicate material – silk. She has almost 20 years of experience in painting on silk and batik. Painting on silk brings her tranquility and deepens her own connection to herself. Her highest goal is to assist others in establishing their own self-connections through art.
