Using twelve 12” x 12” wooden panels over four weeks, artists will be invited to participate in a set of activities and games designed to get the creative juices flowing. Artists will learn to appreciate the power of creative play to reinvigorate their art practice with energy and playfulness, the benefits of which will spill over into other aspects of their creative life. Using acrylic paint or watercolours (pre-mount your paper on the boards), pencils, wax, collage, stencils, modelling paste, printing, and crayons, artists will experiment with layering, varying degrees of transparency, and texture to create abstracted images of landscapes, faces, still lives and non-objective content. One key aspect of art theory will underpin the work in each of the, four weeks. Materials for 12x12x12 Abstracts

Here is what some of Carolyn’s OAS students have to say:

“I thoroughly enjoyed Carolyn’s class…her easy open approach brought the “fun” back into creating. Recommend for everyone who needs some fun!”

“What an absolute joy. Carolyn is a gifted and generous teacher who shared her expertise and materials freely with the class. She did demos and gave us plenty of time to play and experiment. She always highlighted each student’s successes and encouraged us to share with each other the things we learned and practiced at home. I would take another course with her in a heartbeat!”

“I loved this class. Carolyn is accomplished, approachable, and inclusive. The atmosphere was relaxed and creative energies flowed.”

“The course was excellent. Carolyn Hassard has a very nice laid back style and the classes were a combination of her showing us techniques and then allowing us plenty of time to practice. If we didn’t want to practice what she had just shown it was never and issue, she just wanted us all to do whatever interested us. She actively encouraged experimentation. It was an inspired touch for Carolyn to push all the desks together so we were all sitting facing each other which led to all of us chatting, collaborating and being inspired by each other. The course has made gell printing one of my favourite ways to make art, such a nice change from drawing or painting.”

“Loved the class with Carolyn. I learned so much and feel inspired by this experience! Can’t recommend it highly enough!”

“I cannot say enough great things about Carolyn and this course! The course material was well organized, fun and engaging. Carolyn is an amazing teacher who is both patient and fun and facilitates a wonderful creative atmosphere. Please offer more classes like these in the future.”

“Carolyn could not have been more welcoming, more knowledgeable, more enthusiastic, or more sensitive to the needs of her students. She gave us enough instruction to move ahead, then lots of room to ‘play’ while she was completely available for advice and support. What an incredibly beautiful way to spend a few hours during the day. I will be back!”
