Instructor: Wendy Pride OPA
Level: 1+ to 3
Tuesday mornings, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, Studio One
This class is 8 weeks and runs Jan. 7 to Feb. 25
Do you have photographs that you have always wanted to turn into your own painting? In this course you will receive Instruction, tips, guidance, and ongoing feedback as you create a larger painting, ideally on 16×20” canvas’, using photographic sources.
Wendy will demonstrate organizing compositions, enhancing lights and darks from photographs, and adding or removing elements as needed. There will be demonstrations on colour mixing, painting in a direct approach, as well as instruction on linear and atmospheric perspective and more.
To prevent damage to any electronic devices storing photos, you should bring to class 8×10” printed images of the photographs you would like to work from. Printed photographs will not be provided. You may opt to bring your photos on ipad, small desktop, or phone at your own risk.
In preparation for the course, participants are encouraged to find and/or take original photos of landscape/skyscape/waterscape scenes perhaps from local parks, fields, creeks, streets, and along the waterfront at various times of the day or in changing weather conditions.
Because we will be working from photographs, participants are encouraged to read Wendy’s Blog on the Oil Painters of America web-site, entitled “Delicate Questions and Original Conceptions”. Using photographs in the learning environment is a focus of the article.
