LOOSEN UP & PAINT WITH JOY! with Donna Fratesi
Below is a suggested list of supplies. Hopefully you already have supplies that are the same or comparable.
WATERCOLOUR PAPERS
I use a variety of papers - suggest 140 lb. coldpressed such as Arches, Fabriano , or Waterford.
I do use 300 lb sometimes but it is alot more economical to use 140. I don't staple down or tape my paper.
I paint straight up on an easel. I really like the way the paint flows together when painting in that position.
I suggest a #2B pencil for drawing on the watercolour paper. For a palette I use a John Pike palette
and also a butcher tray to make large puddles of colour.
BRUSHES
I use a two inch flat wash brush for large areas when I start a painting and then graduate to smaller rounds such as #'s 12 and 14 but bring what you have and that should be fine.
WATERCOLOUR PAINTS
I am listing the colours I use the most.
Don't feel you have to have all of these colours bring what you have.
Auerolin (Winsor-Newton) Cobalt blue
New Gamboge (Winsor-Newton) Prussian Blue (Holbein)
Raw Sienna (W/N) Ultramarine Blue
Burnt Sienna Winsor Blue
Permanent Alizarin Cerulean Blue
Indian Yellow Cobalt Violet light hue (Sennelier)
Permanent Rose Winsor Red
I list these so that you know what I am using. Any similar colours to substitute will be just fine.
We will be painting from setups both florals and still lifes.
However, bring your favourite photos, ones with good lights and shadow shapes in them to make it easier to paint from.
I look forward to our classes.
