Caricature & Cartoons

Kids will create caricatures and cartoons from idea to finished product using a variety of artist's tools and materials, including pencil, pen, ink, paint and more. Students will design funny faces, outrageous bodies and the many dynamic actions and unique stories that go along with these new characters.

Fun With Pottery

Clay is a wonderful, tactile medium. Its three dimensional nature forces them to think about structure, shapes and forms. Children will experiment with a variety of building techniques while they learn to think about their ideas and adapt to change along the way. Students are assured of lots of personal attention and time on a potters' wheel as well. New projects every week. 1 favorite item will be glazed. Work will be available for pick up after Sept.4th.

In this engaging class students draw favorite animals, characters, still life, and more while learning fundamental art elements: line, shape, texture, color, value and space. You will be taught how to see and to express your own drawing style while exploring in-depth composition through challenging exercises that cover all styles and subject matters.

Painting Basics

Painting enhances color awareness, calms emotions and enriches imagination. Young artists will develop their artistic skills while having fun discovering their own personal style. Working from still life and photographs, students will be introduced to specific drawing and painting fundamentals and techniques. These include line drawing, value, shape, pattern, texture, shading, highlighting, colour, and perspective.

It’s All About Pottery

In this fun class the child will learn to manipulate clay and create objects that are both lasting and useful. NAZILA BOLOURIAN
A natural born artist and teacher, Nazila graduated with a Honours BA in ceramics from Camberwell School of Art and Design, London England. She has been working in clay since 1995, showing her pieces in numerous shows and galleries across the globe. She enjoys sharing her love of clay with others. |
LUCY ERSKINE
Lucy has been an internationally renowned jewellery artisan for more than thirty years. Her unique creations have been displayed in many prominent juried shows and gallery exhibitions. Students appreciate her enthusiasm and enjoy learning her distinctive, refined wire art techniques. |
BRUCE OUTRIDGE
Bruce brings his expertise to the Oakville Art Society’s children’s and adults class programs. Specializing in custom illustration for the transportation industry as well as the creator of the comic strip “The Pride Junkie” Bruce operates his own illustration company in Burlington, Ontario. He has studied in various courses within Ontario including Sheridan College, individual art courses, and the Halton Board of Education. |
JANET PARSONS
Currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Arts Illustration program at the Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. She is going into her fourth year of the Interpretive stream. She enjoys traditional painting, conceptual art and design. Upon graduation she hopes to pursue her career as a freelance illustrator, and one day teach illustration. |
HEIDI ROHDE
A Burlington artist who taught Visual Arts for many years and now enjoys painting full time, both in the studio and outdoors, en plein air. Landscape, particularly the Escarpment is a favourite subject. She enjoys working in pastels, watercolour and acrylic. She is Vice President of Pastel Artists Canada. |

The Oakville Art Society will supply all materials.
Dress Policy
Students are asked to dress informally with casual
comfortable clothing.
Cancellations
Students may cancel their registration without charge up to
2 weeks prior to course start date. Students who wish to withdraw
after the first class will be charged for that class plus an administration
fee of $25.00.No refunds or credits after the second class.
Should the OAS need to cancel a course due to low enrollment, all
students will be notified 1 week in advance and a full refund issued.

Please do not pack any peanut products.
The OAS reserves the right to use photographs of students and their artwork
for publicity or on our web site. If you don't want your child to be photographed,
please let us know.
